Three Blind Mice

Three blind mice!
   See how they run.
They all ran after the farmer's wife,
Who cut off their tails with a carving knife.
Did you ever see such a thing in your life
   As three blind mice?

Source: The Real Mother Goose, published in 1916 by Rand McNally & Co.

Variations of Three Blind Mice :

The first publication of this nursey rhyme is believed to have appeared in 1609 as written by Thomas Ravenscroft:

Three Blinde Mice,
  three Blinde Mice,
Dame Iulian,
  Dame Iulian,
The Miller and his merry olde Wife,
shee scrapte her tripe licke thou the knife.

History and Origins of Three Blind Mice :

Urban legend has it that this rhyme was written before 1609 and professes to be referring to Queen Mary I of England executing three Protestant bishops. However, the earlier lyrics (see above) fail mention the killing of the three blind mice, and these reports date well after the Queen's reign had ended. Source: Wikipedia.org.
